So you want to help out with this web site?
There are two ways you can contribute to this web site.
1. Provide content:
- Add your information to the Class Directory or message boards.
- Let me know about a related site so I can list it.
- Scan interesting pictures from high school days and send
them to me for posting.
- Send pictures from reunions, or pictures of you and your
family.
- Send current or historical information about Cabrillo (anyone
have copies of the school paper from 1973-1977? I will scan,
post, and send back to you).
- Email me information about classmates who have passed.
- What else would you like on the site?
2. Provide technical/editorial assistance:
- Write or customize a cgi/database for a more flexible Class
Directory. Add ability to list entries in alphabetical order,
allow photo postings with the Director Listing, etc.
- Donate a commercial Web Host for faster access to the site.
- Help do some of the HTML programming for web page maintenance
and improvements.
- Provide a mirror location for the web site.
How much does this site cost to maintain?
Right now the site costs $45 a year. A friend of mine provides
the domain for only $20 a year (and provides the DNS). The "Class
Directory" is through a commercial service that costs $25
a year (this service allows more flexibility than the "free"
message boards and has no advertisements). I host the site on
one of my servers (which doubles as the router for my home network),
so it is "free". I already own the necessary software.
The connection I use is my business broadband connection. The
biggest cost is my time, but now that the site is set up I should
manage to keep it under 1-2 hours a week.
No contributions are necessary. If circumstances change dramatically
in the future I may ask for donations to defray actual costs.
I do not anticipate that this will occur.
